The Making of Elizabeth the Mad Jack O' Lantern

Colin really got into helping dig out the pumpkin boogers and seeds as we "cut up the pumpkin's face". I had drawn several pumpkin faces on paper and let him choose. He wanted a mad pumpkin, so Mommy obliged. Colin even drew on hair and ears with a marker. Then he added lines to his own hands and said, "Look Mommy, I'm Iron Man". I realized too late that it was a permanent marker and not one of Colin's Crayolas.




Once it was dark Daddy lit the jack o' lantern. He asked Colin what he named his mad pumpkin. Colin replied, "Elizabeth".

Clifford at COSI

Someone was very excited to see Clifford and the water table at COSI. Ergo, a very wound up tot and no nap. COSI has a month long Clifford the Big Red Dog exhibit and Clifford was actually visiting today. The exhibit must have orginiated at the MN Children's Museum, everything had their label.

Colin brought his little Clifford dog to see the Big Clifford dog. Clifford gave Colin's Clifford a kiss and played with it. Colin thought that was great! The exhibit had a ton of different activities around the places featured in the cartoon. Very cute set up.







Then we went upstairs to the KidSpace and hit the water table for a good 20min. The new water table sponsored by Nationwide Ins. (who knew?) doesn't open for another few weeks, so we'll be sure to go back! The kids just get soaked. I remembered a towel and change of clothes, but Colin remained somewhat dry wearing an already soaked rain slicker with broken zipper. I hope the new water table comes with better jackets.




Getting ready to leave, we rode the elevator with Clifford! Colin was thrilled. We said it was time for Clifford's nap. Colin told him to be sure to close his eyes for his nap! Too bad Colin didn't take his own advice. Oh well, he went to bed quickly tonight.

Pumpkin Patch Pals

Colin and Audrey enjoyed a sunny and warm afternoon at the pumpkin patch to find the perfect pumpkin. There was a very uncomfortable hay ride out to the patch and we walked through burrs to find an orange squash to take home. Tons to see, the kids were entertained by the Halloween and autumn decorations.

Once home, Colin wanted to cut up the pumpkin and eat it. I explained that we carve the pumpkin to make a fun face for a Halloween decoration. The next day at school, Colin announced that we picked out a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch and we were going to cut up its face for Halloween decorations! Yeah, ghoulish stuff, for sure.



In other news, according to our scientific measuring on the kiddie growth chart on the back of his door, Colin has grown almost 2 inches since June.

Reading the "Sunday Paper" ...

...sort of.


When he's not playing puzzles on the Ipod Touch, Colin has started making up his own songs about the things around him. Yesterday's song were all in the tune of "Mary had a little lamb". Papa wears a red shirt, red shirt, red shirt. Papa wears a red shirt, all day long. (Papa Beard was visiting to help with some house projects. Hooray!)

MN Visit

We had a great trip to see Nana Sheila and Papa Guitar. Colin was in a love-hate relationship with Cousin Lexi. It was fun to watch the two of them get wound up running around the house. Colin did great on the flying "bus" there and back. He keeps asking where our truck is -we rented an SUV for the weekend. I think he liked that it was a truck! We came back to the croup and have spent the week in and out of school recovering. Some pictures from our visit.

New Bike

Colin is very excited about his new bike. Uncle AJ and Bill were investigating this small bike without pedals so kids learn to work on balance before adding in the pedaling. With his Buzz Lightyear helmet and bell, Colin loves to scoot around. He's started picking up his feet to coast a little. He's pretty good at manuvering it around obstacles.

Go Buckeyes Band

We took Colin to an OSU Marching Band practice session. We sat on the hill with the band parents from what we guessed. Colin recognized some of the songs, but most of the time was spent on scales etc. So Colin got a little antsy and needed to explore. It was fun and he enjoyed telling everyone at school that next week.
