Memorial Weekend

Getting back into the swing of summer-things like weekend trips to the Lake House. A little hectic trying to remember what we left up there from last summer and what we needed to bring. We enjoyed a long weekend with family at the Lake House with lots of sunshine. The lake was unusually warm as well -in the 70's. Made it so easy to get in with the kiddies (who were raring to dive right in). Colin had no fear of the water and liked wading up to his chin chasing the minnows. He'd jump off the dock to you in shallow and deeper water (going under once!). The boats, however, did have him concerned. He liked the idea of them, but was a little freaked out when we got moving fast. So we sat on them for a while to get used to them, but when the engines started, he was not happy and wanted to get off. Looks like we'll have to slowly reintroduce how super fun the boats are...

We moved Colin to a "big boy" bed at the lake, a hand-me-down from Cousin Zoe, since he's outgrown the Pack N Play. Someone was super excited about his new bed and bounced all over it like a little monkey. It took awhile for him to settle down and actually sleep. But, he would wait until someone came to get him before he would climb out.

Other fun activities included helping Nana Mary with yard work, baby bird watching, making outlines of the kids in Jenga blocks, and lounging on the hammock.

Everyone was hoping to leave soon after lunch on Monday. Unfortunately, a huge storm blew up with high winds and large hail. It look boats off lifts, swept away docks, and knocked down trees into lawns and roofs. We spent some time huddled in the windowless bathroom until most of it passed over. Afterward, the neighborhood came out to help restore lifts and docks and share stories of the damage around the lake. A big fire truck parked outside the house for the afternoon, Colin and I enjoyed walking around it making siren sounds. The locals said they couldn't remember a storm like this in the past decade. It was intense. Needless to say, nobody left early. Made for a rough Tuesday morning.
